“Warm life preserved by the pen”: Memoirist Laurie Lee and the valley he loved
What a magically satisfying composition. Where to start? The perfect angular division between glittering water and lacy dark leaves; the silhouette of the fellow in the boat; the perky little spray of reeds in the left hand corner, adding lightness of spirit — and the just plain beauty of the whole, all perfect in black and white.
Oh, how sparklingly lovely Allyson! This is the most beautifully balanced composition in every way, right down to the pointy reeds on the left drawing us into the photo, to the dark bushes on the right ready to receive and embrace the boater. The sparkles are a wonderful bright contrast to the dark solids of the bushes. This is a winner!
